Using the “Obsidian” app, we are working to collect more and more data on artists in the Concrete Art movement.
Initially, the focus is not on content-related information, but on exploring networks and connections between artists, artist groups, galleries, museums, and collections. To this end, artist records are tagged, and these tags can in turn link to other records, such as those of a gallery or artist group.
The information is entered into the program and tagged accordingly. The cross-connections are then automatically generated. If you search within the program for an artist or, for example, an institution, all connections to other records are displayed.
Each node in this network represents an actor in the scene. These can be artists, museums, galleries, or others. Each day assigned to an actor establishes connections to other actors. This occurs through direct links, for example between artists and the group to which they belong, or in which they are represented in the same collection.
You can use the text search to display affiliations in a table, or the Graphical View to visually display the cross-connections.
You can also search by category—such as “Artist Group” here—to see which artists in that category have already been added to the database.
The goal is to create a network that is as extensive as possible, with as much data as possible, in order to make it easier to find information and connections within the community.
